From snow bikes to alpine spray: the highlights of the current ski season

Winter holidays with Landal in Austria and the Bavarian Forest

Trier, 16 January 2025 - Bright sunshine and top snow conditions are ensuring ideal skiing conditions and a great atmosphere for guests at the ten Landal parks in Austria and the new Landal Arber park in the Bavarian Forest this season. So what are the absolute must-haves and must-dos on and off the piste? In addition to modern gadgets, wild mixed drinks and regional offerings, the old favourites are still in vogue in terms of fashion, music and cuisine. With or without skis - above all, it should be fun and bring everyone together.

Slow down with ski-in and ski-out

Skiing is and remains the absolute highlight of the winter holidays. Breathtaking winter landscapes with wide and well-groomed pistes, such as those at Landal holiday rentals, offer ideal conditions for professionals and beginners alike. Christina Maier from the Gargellner cable car in Montafon: "In the spirit of slowing down, ski-in/ski-out is becoming increasingly popular. No handling of skis, no transport and no journey to the valley station. Guests want to be able to ski straight from their accommodation onto the piste for a great day's skiing." This is possible at Landal Brandnertal, Landal Katschberg and Landal Hochmontafon, for example. However, the other locations Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim and Landal Maria Alm also offer ideal conditions and countless kilometres of pistes.

On the piste with wearables, apps and snow bikes

Modern gadgets such as GPS watches and various apps enhance the skiing experience by tracking kilometres of piste and providing real-time data on piste conditions, weather conditions and avalanche risks.

Away from the piste, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ski touring are on the list of top activities. "A new trend that already previously existed is the snowbike. A snowbike is a piece of winter sports equipment that resembles a bicycle but is equipped with skis instead of wheels," explains Wolfgang Krainer from the Krainer ski school, which is located near Landal Bad Kleinkirchheim. "It's great fun to ski down the slopes and is easy to learn. It's especially great for non-skiers and beginners." And those who want to avoid the piste altogether will find the best tips from the "NoSki Instructor" from Austria. It shows how skiing holidays in Austria can be done without skis: from the thrill of ice swimming to the pleasure of heart-warming feasts and exploring peaceful winter landscapes.

Neon is back

Old trends are also back in fashion. Ski enthusiasts like to ski in classic black and white, but also extremely colourful combinations. Neon colours and bright shades such as pink and light blue are particularly popular with young winter sports enthusiasts and are real eye-catchers on the slopes. The bright colours of the jacket, trousers or helmet also ensure greater safety and attract twice as much attention.

Culinary highlights: Flying Muh and Alpenspritz

"For years, Aperol Spritz, Jagertee and mulled wine have been the most popular après-ski drinks. And that's also the case this year," says Zsolt Vitanyi from the Unicorn Restaurant at Landal Brandnertal. Christian Prägant from the Sepp ski bar in Bad Kleinkirchheim adds: "In addition to the classics, Flying Muh, a Jägermeister with milk, and Alpenspritz, a sea buckthorn liqueur with Aperol, are very popular. Sepp's Country Burger is made from fresh, home-made ingredients with products from the region." Regional specialities are an absolute must this season anyway. Participants of the "Culinary King's Tours", which are easily accessible from Landal Maria Alm, can ski from one ski hut to the next and combine each stop with a culinary highlight.

Holistic winter experiences in demand

"More and more guests want to spend time together instead of being on the slopes all day. Alternatives that offer a holistic winter experience with family or friends are becoming increasingly important when it comes to booking decisions," says Patrick Lengdorfer from the Rennweg Katschberg Tourist Board. Guests can find these experiences in the Landal holiday accommodations. Richard Kaufmann, General Manager of Landal Arber: "Landal's accommodation offers something for everyone. Holidaymakers can choose between many different types of accommodation. Children can play and let off steam in the Bollo Club while their parents relax. Swimming pools and leisure plus relaxation facilities in a great location, whatever the weather, there's something for everyone."

Other ski destinations in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland can be booked via Landal.
